Loans for People with a County Court Judgement (CCJ)
You could still be considered for a loan, even if you have a CCJ on your credit file.
Facing a financial emergency? Worried that a bad credit history could limit your options if you need to apply for credit? Maybe you’ve asked, ‘Can you get a loan with a CCJ?’.
A county court judgment (CCJ) is an official court decision that states you owe money and must pay it back.
Having a CCJ on your credit record doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t be eligible for a loan.
Little Loans is a credit broker working with a panel of over 50 direct lenders. Several of our lenders specialise in loans for people with bad credit and might consider those with a CCJ if your circumstances have since improved.
Can I get a loan if I have a CCJ?
You could get a loan with a CCJ, but it will depend on the lender you apply with. Some lenders could be willing to consider applications from people with a CCJ, although your options may be limited.
A CCJ stays on your credit file for six years – and a lot can change in that time. While you might have struggled to pay credit commitments in the past, your circumstances may have changed, and you’ve been managing your finances well over the last few years.
Some lenders are willing to look past your credit history and use your recent financial activity when considering your application. With your consent, a lender can view recent transactions and repayments in your online bank account using an Open Banking check.
Loans for people with a CCJ and bad credit
Having a CCJ and bad credit could make it difficult for you to get a loan, but as discussed, it might not be impossible.
Please be aware that, if approved, a CCJ bad credit loan could come with a higher rate of interest, and this will make the overall cost of borrowing more expensive.
Should I get a loan with a CCJ?
You should only ever apply for a loan if you’re certain that you can afford to make your monthly repayments. Please note that your repayments will include interest.
You may want to talk over your situation with a trained advisor – we’ve included some organisations that could help you further on in this article.
What type of loan could I get with a CCJ?
- CCJ payday loan
Payday loans are typically repaid by your next payday. As these products are less common than they once were, some borrowers may choose a short-term loan as an alternative, allowing repayments to be spread over a longer period. - Short-term CCJ loan
A short-term loan allows you to spread the cost of borrowing across several months or years. Your repayment options will depend on the lender and the amount of money you’re approved to borrow. - CCJ loan with a guarantor
A guarantor loan is a type of loan where another person, usually a family member or trusted friend, agrees to repay the loan if you're unable to make the repayments yourself. - No-guarantor CCJ loan
A no-guarantor loan allows you to apply to borrow money without a guarantor. - Secured loan for people with a CCJ
A secured loan is when the money you borrow is attached to an ‘asset’, such as your car or home. This is known as ‘collateral’. It’s crucial to be aware that defaulting on your secured loan repayments could result in your asset being seized and sold by the lender.
CCJ loans with no credit check
Important: you can’t get a loan without a full credit check.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) requires all authorised and regulated lenders to carry out a full credit check on anybody who makes an application for credit. These checks are in place to protect you; lenders need to be sure that you can repay the money you’re applying to borrow.
Any lender claiming to offer no credit check loans is not operating in line with FCA guidelines, and should be avoided.
You can check whether a company appears on the FCA register using the FCA Firm Checker tool.
Direct lender CCJ loans: which lenders will accept me if I have a CCJ?
To find out if your chosen lender considers applications for a CCJ loan, you should check the eligibility criteria on their website.
You should always make sure you meet the lender’s eligibility criteria before you apply. When you make an application with a direct lender, they will carry out a creditworthiness assessment. This will include a hard search or an Open Banking check. Multiple hard searches within a short space of time could cause your credit score to decline.

Alternatives to loans for people with a CCJ
- Use savings, if you have any
- Take a step back and save the money instead
This won’t be possible in every situation, but if the expense could wait, you might consider saving up the money you need rather than applying for credit. Of course, this will take longer, but it will be cheaper in the long run, because you won’t pay interest on borrowing. Your credit file and score will also be protected from hard searches. - Speak to friends and family
Could a loved one lend you the money you need?
Before you borrow money from someone you know, you both must agree on a repayment schedule. Falling behind on repayments could damage your relationship. - Look into a credit builder credit card
If you have a bad credit history, a credit builder credit card could be an option to consider. As the name suggests, this type of credit card could help you build credit. Used responsibly, a credit builder credit card could help demonstrate a positive repayment history and may contribute to improving your credit profile over time. You can check your eligibility for a credit builder credit card with our partner, thimbl, even if you have a CCJ.
What happens if I can’t repay my loan?
If you’re struggling to make your loan repayments, you should contact your lender as soon as you can. They will talk you through your options and help you understand the next steps you can take while you get back on your feet.

Loans for people with a CCJ: FAQs
What is a satisfied CCJ?
A satisfied CCJ is a CCJ that’s been fully repaid. Even if a CCJ has been satisfied, it will remain on your credit file for six years, unless it was repaid within one month of being issued, in which case you can ask for it to be removed.
If a CCJ is unsatisfied, it means it hasn’t been fully repaid.
Is a satisfied CCJ better?
Lenders may view a satisfied CCJ more favourably than an unsatisfied CCJ, but it could still negatively impact your chances of approval and limit the borrowing options available to you.
Can I get a CCJ loan without a guarantor from a direct lender?
You may be eligible for a no-guarantor CCJ loan with a direct lender, although this will depend on the lender you apply with.
Several of the direct lenders on the Little Loans panel could consider applications for no-guarantor CCJ loans.
You can read more about CCJs in our guide.

If you’re matched with a loan and choose to make a full application, the lender will complete a creditworthiness assessment, which will include a hard search or an Open Banking check.
